Akademisk frihed er en urokkelig værdi for CBS

Akademisk frihed og ytringsfrihed er fundamentet for alt akademisk arbejde – det gælder også på CBS.

Academic freedom and freedom of expression are fundamental to all academic work – and that includes CBS.

We fully support the statement made by the Minister for Higher Education and Science on Tuesday 2 April 2025, which clearly emphasises that: “We must insist on certain fundamental values. First and foremost, academic freedom and free research without political interference.  That is immensely important, and we are making a significant effort to safeguard it.”

CBS’ work on diversity, equity and inclusion is a natural part of our efforts to ensure that these fundamental freedoms apply to all students and academic talent.

CBS works closely with society and creates significant value for companies and communities around the world every day. We want to keep doing so, and that requires us to insist on always being free and independent of the very same political and commercial interests that we examine and engage with.

We are seeing respected colleagues around the world come under pressure from direct political interference in their academic work. This is deeply concerning and raises a lot of questions.

We therefore want to make it completely clear and unequivocal that CBS stands by its values and the shared liberal principles that underpin good science and education. CBS firmly and wholeheartedly supports the right of all our students and researchers to academic freedom.

This principle is clearly articulated in our 2022 statement on freedom of expression and remains non-negotiable. Researchers and students at CBS must never feel pressured into self-censorship or be subject to external influence in their academic work – whether consciously or unconsciously. Our contributions to international journals, conferences and academia must always be based on free thought, curiosity and academic excellence. Results and conclusions must never be shaped by current political trends.

CBS also remains committed to building an inclusive culture and increasing diversity among both employees and students. We have clearly described this commitment in CBS’ strategic framework agreement with the Minister for Higher Education and Science and in CBS’ diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.

Finally, CBS stands by our right and responsibility to work towards a more informed, sustainable and responsible future – grounded in our Nordic roots. This is a core element of CBS’ strategy

We encourage everyone in CBS’ strong community to stand together and protect our shared values and mission.
