The Arctic Maritime Platform Project sets out to identify constructive ways of establishing a forum for public and private partners currently working within the Arctic.Together with Maritime DTU at the Technical University of Denmark, CBS Maritime has set out to identify an efficient and fruitful way of establishing such a partnership. The project will present its preliminary findings and recommendations for the future collaboration at Danish Maritime Days 2015.
Background
The Arctic Maritime Platform project was launched in April 2015 with the purpose to create a forum where private and public stakeholders can define challenges and needs for solutions, innovation and development within the maritime sector with a focus on the Arctic areas.
- The background for the Arctic Maritime Platform Project is the recent report developed by NIRAS for the Danish Maritime Authority. One of the five recommendations states, that in order to address the many barriers surrounding business development in the Arctic, the maritime sector should work towards establishing a formal collaboration between the many public and private actors involved, says CBS Maritime Co-Director, Carsten Ørts Hansen.
Since the launch of the project the main activities have been to build up the framework for an Arctic Maritime Forum by carrying out a mapping of relevant stakeholders in Denmark, Greenland and internationally and by defining challenges and barriers and identify common competencies, which can contribute to the solutions and hence overcome business barriers.
He goes on to elaborate on the motivations for supporting a formal collaboration amongst the players in the Arctic:
- Arctic business development is surrounded by many uncertainties and unexplored frontiers. Therefore, the NIRAS report recommends that we move towards a cluster-based type of collaboration, which takes into consideration not only the factor of competitiveness, but also societal and environmental issues related to Arctic business development, says Carsten Ørts Hansen.
- The project partners DTU Maritime and CBS Maritime will be presenting our findings at the planned event on October 5, 2015. On the basis of our analysis we will also present the ways ahead towards establishing a form of collaboration in an Arctic Forum”, says Carsten Ørts Hansen.
