Texas A&M University in Galveston to join the B.Sc. in International Shipping and Trade

“We are extremely happy that starting up of a shipping bachelor at CBS has proven to be such a huge success. The massive interest is a clear indication that there is room to expand, and as such we are already well underway to double the intake for next year’s batch,” says program director, associate professor Martin Jes Iversen.
With the immediate aim to increase the intake of students in the new B.Sc. program in International Shipping and Trade, CBS Maritime has been in dialogue with international partners that can offer teaching collaboration similar to the ones CBS has with Singapore Management University (SMU) in regards to the bachelor program. Only three percent of the 747 applicants were lucky to be admitted into the program and CBS Maritime sees that there is a need to expand the program. With Texas A&M University joining the partnership, the shipping bachelor at CBS will be covering three continents and, as such, supporting the already strong internationalization at CBS.
“TAMUG is not only a well-suited partner in terms of strong research based teaching in the maritime field but can also offer our students maritime courses similar to those offered in exchange by SMU. In December, CBS Maritime and the Maritime Administration at TAMUG will sign a Memorandum of Understanding that will formalize the collaboration between the two universities,” says CBS Maritime Co-director and study board representative, Carsten Ørts Hansen.
About the B.Sc. in International Shipping and Trade
The BSc in International Shipping and Trade is different from the other study programs at CBS in that it focuses directly on just one industry. Students will develop a specific understanding of how shipping companies operate, how they develop strategies and business networks and how to plan and manage in an industry that operates in a global context, which is constantly changing. As a B.Sc. student you will study at CBS, study abroad, study together with students from other countries and cultures and also spend time in a shipping company. The program was launched in 2014 in collaboration between Singapore Management University and CBS. A formal collaboration was entered at a signing ceremony in Singapore in January 2014.
