Professor Pierre Cariou from KEDGE Business School in France addressed these, and other related questions at seminar “Strategic Alliances in Liner Shipping Markets”, hosted by CBS Maritime on September 26. Touching upon many related subjects, such as how strategic alliances providing shipping companies with a better opportunity to slow steam and hence save on fuel costs, whether or not “economies of scale” means the provision of better services to customers, and the industry implications of port constraints, he showed that there are many variables to be taken into consideration when entering into strategic alliances in liner shipping.
The subsequent discussion amongst the participants provided interesting arguments and supplements to the professor Cariou’s presentation, based on related research and analysis done by the people who attended.
