Peru: Strategic Partner for Denmark in South America

The 25th of September 2013 the Competitiveness Platform at CBS organised the Seminar “Peru - Strategic Partner for Denmark in South America” in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR), PromPerú (Commission for the Promotion of Peru for export and tourism), and support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru (MRE). The main objective of the seminar was to strengthen the image of Peru in Denmark among CBS’ students, faculty members and practitioners.

Keynote speeches were presented by the Vice Minister of Foreign Trade Mr. Carlos Posada, the Ambassador of Peru for Denmark and Sweden H.E. José Beraún Araníbar, and the Executive Director of ProInversión Mr. Javier Illesca Mucha. The speeches highlighted: 1) the Trade Agreement between Peru and the European Union (EU), which came into force on 1 March 2013, 2) examples of opportunities for investment and trade on key industrial sectors, such as mining, agriculture, land transport, energy, among others, 3) the on-going trade and investment flows between Peru and the European Union, and in particular with Denmark.

Additionally, Ms. Guðrun Rogvadottir -Co-founder and Financial Manager of GudrunGudrun, presented her learning experiences of investment and trade relation in Peru. Finally, Mr. Christoffer Bækgaard Ludwigs representative from the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI), presented the DI’s perspective on Business Relations between Denmark and Peru.

110 participants (60 students, 10 CBS faculty members, and 40 practitioners) joined the event. The Competitive Platform in collaboration with the Peruvian Mission offered a cocktail reception. The seminar “Peru - Strategic Partner for Denmark in South America”, gave an opportunity for the participants to learn more about Peru, and develop network relationships for mutual cooperation between Peru and Denmark.

• The Centre for Business and Development Studies (CBDS) at CBS

Background

The Trade Agreement between Peru and the European Union (EU) came into force on 1 March 2013, which allows preferential access to 99.3% of Peruvian agricultural and 100% of industrial products to the EU. The Peruvian Trade Mission to the EU will present the Trade Agreement.

The goal of this event is to raise awareness of business and trade opportunities between Peru and Denmark, to foster business development, international dialogue and exchange, and thereby to further strengthen mutual cooperation.
