The CBS workshop is part of the four-day International Symposium:
From the Left Turn to the Decolonial Option: Conceptualizing Current Latin America, which takes place on May 20-23 at various locations. The Symposium is organized in corporation with Roskilde University and the Rehabilitation and Research Centre for Torture Victims, and funded by the Danish Research Council for Society and Business.
The event is motivated by the challenges that the recent series of political events in Latin America, also conceptualised as the Left Turn, pose both in a political and in an academic realm. These events, spearheaded by the election of Brazilian president Ignacio Lula da Silva, Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez, and the first Aymara Bolivian president, Evo Morales, have inaugurated a watershed of political change which seems to require a revision of established scientific approaches to understand Latin America in a global, regional, national and sub-national perspective.
The workshop is hosted by Center for Study of the Americas.
