CBS graduate wins a prize for his thesis.

Benefits can be gained by both the business and the student by entering into a thesis agreement. Kristian Myrup Pedersen, newly graduated with an MSc in Economics and Business Administration from the Department of Accounting and Auditing at CBS is a good example. Besides gaining top marks, his thesis was awarded first prize in the Danske Bank's thesis competition, the Danish Thesis 2007.

To win the prize, Kristian competed against 27 other students from various universities who, after applying, were selected to write their theses in co-operation with the Danske Bank. In addition to the honour of winning, a travel gift certificate for 25,000 DKK was given to Kristian, who, from 1st September, can also look forward to being employed as a graduate trainee with Danske Bank.

Understanding the housing market

The thesis was written in collaboration with Danske Bank, which has been highly beneficial for the writing process.

- I have been able to spar with the bank?s specialists and have received some good practical input ? and help to understand the very complex rules, says Kristian who, in his thesis, has analysed the theoretical needs of private individuals for so-called homeowner financial instruments.

-Such an instrument can, for example, be a contract that is entered into between the bank and the players in the housing market. In this way the purchase and sale prices of owner-occupied homes can be frozen, which can help both the homeowners and those people who are afraid of a drop in house prices, as well as future homeowners who fear price increases, he says.

Helpful inspiration for new products

Homeowner financial instruments are not yet used in Denmark, and for Danske Bank the advantage of the collaboration has therefore been that the company, in developing new products, was able to make use of Kristian?s analysis.

-The thesis has shed light on a number of basic housing economy aspects that are often forgotten in the financial world. It is both a very well-written and an extremely theoretically-sound thesis, says Managing Director, Peter Straarup, who is chairman of the judging panel that selected the three best theses.

Could your thesis be the next winner?

Every year, Danske Bank invites students to write a thesis in collaboration with their company and, this year, 28 students from CBS, the University of Copenhagen, ASB, and the University of Ã…rhus took part.

Kristian Myrup Pedersen was not the only one to represent CBS among the prize-winners. Third place was awarded to Azeem Ahmad and Tania Folting, both graduates with an MSc in Economics and Business Administration, Economic Marketing.

Danske Bank will soon be starting a new thesis competition. Information is available from week 46 at their website: www.danskebank.dk/danskespeciale. The deadline for applications is 14th December, and an information meeting will be held at CBS on 28th November.
