America against the rest of the world?
The American journalist Bruce Stokes on prejudices and self-perception
Friday 3 February 2006, the American journalist Bruce Stokes is giving a lecture at CBS in connection with his new book “America Against the World: How We Are Different and Why We are Disliked,” which will be published in May 2006.
In his guest lecture “How Different are Americans? Attitudes and Opinions of the American Public,” he will discuss the transatlantic world’s conception of America and America’s own self-perception.
”Both the global economy and the conception of “the international society” are significantly influenced by American foreign policy. However, it is uncertain whether or not the American self-perception of the US’ global role corresponds to the attitudes held by the transatlantic world. Since 2001, Europe has been divided in the question about the aim and means of the American foreign policy – a division that can stand in the way for common progress in areas such as global trade, the fight against terrorism and human rights,” says Erik Højberg, Associate Professor at CBS and co-host of the guest lecture in cooperation with the American Embassy in Denmark.
"America Against the World: How We Are Different and Why We are Disliked" udkommer til maj og er skrevet sammen med Andrew Kohut.
