A book about the history of Danish healthcare nominated

- As a reader, you are deeply impressed by the writer’s breadth of vision. It is definitely a book to recommend - valuable without being too sober and certainly not boring.

That is what reviewer Karin Conradsen writes about the book on historie-online.dk, the website for the Danish Historical Council. The publication in question is the book Ve og velfærd. Læger, sundhed og samfund (Welfare. Doctors, health, and society) written by Kurt Jacobsen, Professor at the Department for Management, Politics and Philosophy, and Journalist Klaus Larsen. The reception of the book, which is described as both enlightening and entertaining, has been so positive that it has been nominated among four other books as the historical book of the year (2007).

The book marks the 150th anniversary of the Danish Medical Association and describes the history of doctors and healthcare in Denmark since 1857. It describes Danish doctors and the history of Danish healthcare as part of the general social development. The book focuses in particular on the significance of medical science in the Danish welfare state.

Historical book of 2007

The website of the Danish Historical Council (DHF), historie-online.dk, nominated the five books, which visitors to the site can vote for. “The Historical Book of 2007” is awarded 25,000 Danish kroner and will be presented by the Danish Minister of Culture, Brian Mikkelsen.

DHF is an umbrella organisation for historical institutions and associations that work to support and encourage the interest and presentation of history in Denmark by, among other things, mentioning publications with historical subjects on its website.
