Unemployed learn how to understand a business at CBS
According to Statistics Denmark, there were 22,000 unemployed Danes in 2013. CBS wants to increase the possibilities of unemployed academics to get ahead by helping them improve their skills and teaching them how to create their own jobs. So CBS is now offering six-week courses for unemployed academics and executives. The first course is for those who wish to strengthen their skills within financial management and business operations. The course starts on 8 April. The courses after are for unemployed executives and new entrepreneurs.
CBS wants to create skills for growth
Christian Tangkjær, Vice Dean for MBA, executive master and diploma programmes at CBS, is one of the forces behind the new courses:
- CBS knows how to create competences within business administration and understanding. We excel within those fields. CBS has decided to enter this field of education because both academics trained within the humanities and the social and natural sciences can benefit from our expertise. We know that companies seek competences within financial management and operations, and we know that a lot of academics have not received training within those disciplines, he says.
Unemployed with a degree from all universities in Denmark are welcome to sign up for a course. The aim of these courses are to help more academics to get a job in the private sector.
Translate your competences
Cutbacks are made in the public sector. Traditionally, a lot of academics have been trained to work in the public sector. But the jobs must be found in the private sector - Denmark is focusing on small and medium-sized companies:
- We know that academics can make a crucial difference in small and medium-sized companies - there are plenty of examples. But the anthropologist or the biologist have to translate their own skills and make them known to the companies, so the companies can see the competences they will benefit from. We are providing the participants with the needed perspective on the company. Afterwards they will be able to translate their academic competences, says Christian Tangkjær.
Company representatives will also visit the courses to make it as business-oriented as possible. The courses generate ECTS points.
Scheduled six-week courses:
Financial management in a private company: 8 April 2013
From unemployed to entrepreneur: 15 April 2013
For executives between jobs: 2 May 2013
