PhD defence: Jacob Halvas Bjerre

In order to obtain the PhD degree, Jacob Halvas Bjerre has submitted his thesis entitled: Excluding the Jews. The Aryanization of Danish-German Trade and German Anti-Jewish Policy in Denmark 1937-1943

Wednesday, November 28, 2018 - 13:00 to 15:00

The purpose of this dissertation is to explore and analyze German anti-Jewish policies in Denmark with a main focus on the removal of Jews (Aryanization) in the Danish-German trade relations from 1937 until August 1943. As a second research goal, it examines the reactions of the Danish government to the German Judenpolitik. Departing from the traditional focus of ‘October 1943’ this dissertation reveals the presence of a coherent and subversive National Socialist policy aiming at continuously excluding Jews from trading with Germany on an international scale as well as in Denmark. In addition, Jews in Denmark were subject to several other exclusive measures. Further, it argues the Danish government progressively, although slowly, accepted or adopted the subversive German Judenpolitik in Denmark to avoid laws against the Jews.
