Presentation

Marie-Louise Holle’s research focuses on climate litigation, tort law, and contract law. She is a member of Columbia Law School’s Sabin Center for Climate Change Law Peer Review Network and serves as a rapporteur for five jurisdictions—Madagascar, Monaco, Namibia, the Seychelles, and the Vatican. Her research in climate litigation builds on her extensive scholarship in liability, torts, and litigation. In addition to her rapporteur role, she is also part of the Sabin Center’s research group on corporate liability and climate change and has been invited to join the expert panel for the Center’s webinars.

Holle has been nominated as a visiting professor in the Global Law of Obligations ("Civil Law and Contemporary Global Issues") at NUS Law (Singapore), one of the world’s top-ranked law schools. Holle has given research presentations in Australia, North America, Asia and Europe.  She has also contributed to the prestigious Obligations Series Conference, presenting her paper at the 2023 “Private Law and the State” conference in Banff, Canada. The Obligations Series is the most renowned private law conference in the Common Law world, with a highly competitive paper selection process.

Beyond climate litigation, Holle has undertaken numerous comparative law, foreign law, and international law research projects. Her work has been published in French, English, and Danish, and she is a member of the Climate Law and Economics research group at CBS LAW.

From 2014 to 2016, she served as lead editor for the major Nordic research project "Restatement of Nordic Contract Law", funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers and other institutions.

Holle holds a PhD from the University of Copenhagen, a DESS (Master) in European Business Law from Université Paris V – René Descartes, and a Candidata Juris (Master of Laws) from the University of Copenhagen.

She has been a visiting research fellow at leading institutions, including Columbia University (New York), the University of Sydney, and Sciences Po Paris.

Since May 2023, she has also served as a board member of JurForsk, the Danish legal PhD education program.
