Congratulations to Kristina Kazuhara who on November 21st, 2024 successfully defended her PhD thesis 'Shifting Frames: Contextualizing Biculturalism in International Business Research'

Against the backdrop of the 21st century’s increasingly complex business environments characterized by diverse and sometimes conflicting linguistic, cultural, and organizational boundaries, bi- and multiculturals have emerged as a latent resource for competitive advantage. While bi- and multiculturals are widely touted as efficient boundary spanners and cross-cultural bridgers, little is known about the lived experiences and situated conditions that shape whether and how these individuals become a strategic resource. Through a language-sensitive ethnography-inspired study set in the subsidiaries of two Danish pharmaceutical companies in Japan, this dissertation contributes an understanding of how cultural identity is perceived of, experienced, and enacted by individuals in global management settings.
