Presentation and academic fields

I am an applied economist with specialisation in international trade and business related issues. My research focuses on the interface between globalisation, trade, FDI and economic development with reference to the emerging markets, in particular Asia. The philosophy underlying my research is that the global economy is going through major transformations that demand new policy responses to development challenges. The technological revolution, intense competition for market access, proliferation of global value chains and increasing interconnectedness of the global economies have made traditional economic paradigms and policy strategies inadequate. The growing demand for reconceptualizing the traditional development thinking has led to the emergence of ‘sustainable development’ as a new thinking for the future. My research explores the growing complexities in economic relations, seeks to explain them from the sustainability perspective and draws policy implications.  I mainly focus on sustainable development goals (SDGs) number 1, 8, 9, 10 and 17, even though I have also covered some aspects of SDGs number 3 and 4 in my research.

I use  both, the primary and secondary data and apply them to qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods based on whether the analysis is inductive, deductive or abductive. Currently I am working on a project Special Economic Zones: A force for good to reduce inequality funded by Riksbanken Jubileumsfond.
