Professor Bryan Turner, The City University of New York and University of Western Sydney, is a prominent sociologist worldwide. His research interests span a broad range of subjects. They include Max Weber, religion, comparative sociology, globalisation and religion. Recently Turner has specialized in issues such as religious conflict and the modern state, religious authority and electronic information, human rights and religion, the human body, medical change, and religious cosmologies. Turner’s books include The New Medical Sociology (2004), Rights and Virtues: Political Essays on Citizenship and Social Justice (2006), Body and Society: Explorations in Social Theory (2008), and Religion and Modern Society: Citizenship, Secularisation and the State (2011).

The lecture is free to the public and no registration is needed.
