PhD defence: Thomas Presskorn-Thygesen

The dissertation examines the concept of normativity through a series of studies in post-Kantian philosophy and social theory. The overall aim is to analyse the historical as well as systematic relevance of the concept of normativity to modern philosophy and to the methodologi¬cal challenges of social theory. In pursuing this overall research agenda, the dissertation contributes to several research literatures on (1) the influence of German Idealism on the conception of scientific method and normativity in the classical sociology of M. Weber and É. Durkheim, (2) the RCT-models of norms advanced by the contemporary economic sociology of G. Becker and J. Coleman and (3) the exegesis of L. Wittgenstein’s conception of rules, normativity and praxis.
