Two internationally recognized researchers at CBS’ Dept. of Finance

CBS’ Department of Finance has recently succeeded in recruiting two first class Professors, Søren Hvidkjær and Kristian Miltersen as full-time faculty. Both Søren and Kristian come from attractive positions held at renowned universities but have chosen to return to Denmark partly due to CBS’, and in particular the Department’s research excellence and international ambitions, and partly due to family reasons.

DONG Energy contributes to professorship

Kristian Miltersen was Strorebrand Professor of Finance at Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration Bergen before joining CBS on 1 September, 2009 as a new Professor of Finance. Kristian investigates companies’ capital structure, and how this influences their investment policies. Kristian’s research focuses on pricing derivative securities, real options, energy and commodity markets, R&D investments, life insurance & pension savings. DONG Energy is so interested in Kristian’s research that they have chosen to make an annual contribution of DKK 200,000 for the next five years in return for his input at seminars and after work meetings on specific topics.

Why do we trade stocks

Søren Hvidkjær comes from a position as Associate Professor at INSEAD in France before commencing at CBS on 1 August, 2008 as Professor of Finance. In his work, Søren tries to determine which factors drive prices in financial markets, i.e. what drives prices and how information gets impounded into prices. “Does it matter whether some traders know more than others? What are the underlying mechanisms that make people trade. Explanation of trading behavior is essential for investors and regulators”. Søren’s research focuses on empirical asset pricing, behavioral finance and market microstructure.

Strengthening of international profile

“We are delighted to have Kristian and Søren on board. They are internationally recognized researchers who will strengthen our international profile and make it easier to attract strong faculty and dedicated students in the years to come”, says Head of Department Professor David Lando.

Søren Hvidkjær and Kristian Miltersen will hold their inaugural lecture at CBS on 4 December, 2009 from 14:00-17:00, Danske Bank lecture hall (2.01), Solbjerg Plads 3, Frederiksberg.
