Lisbeth Clausen and Verner Worm had created a poster titled ‘Corporate Cross-cultural collaboration – the contextual challenges of multicultural teams in China and Japan’. The poster illustrates the researchers’ exploration of how different cultural contexts can lead to certain challenges and gives examples of how cultural intelligence can be used to understand and tackle such challenges.

The poster was presented on the ICIC Conference on Intercultural Collaboration on August 19-20 hosted by the Institute for Intercultural Communication and Management and Centre for Applied Information and Communication Technology, CBS. The conference drew 100 people from 29 countries; primarily researchers but also representatives from international corporations.

The poster was well received, and enjoyed much attention. It was close runners up to the 1st price which went to Miriam Hansen, Lisette Scholz and Regina Jucks for their poster ‘Intercultural Communication in University Teachings’.

About their participation Lisbeth Clausen says, “Colleagues from Finland, Thailand and Israel visited our poster booth with their sack lunches. It was inspiring to discuss with them at length about our project. A US scholar was fascinated with our close collaboration with companies. Their research team studies interaction in ‘laboratories’ in closed environments simulating real life experience. A scholar from Thailand found our findings on the cultural intelligence of teams interesting. Danish entrepreneurs and corporate partners also came to discuss HR developments in China and Japan. I found the poster format to be a productive way to exchange ideas”.

The researchers behind the poster are part of the research program ‘Cultural Intelligence as a strategic resource’.

Other members of the program also participated in the conference: Anne-Marie Søderberg as general co-chair, Martine Cardel Gertsen as immigration chair and Liselotte Skovgaard Jessen as local arrangements chair. In addition to presenting the poster, Lisbeth Clausen and Verner Storm participated as respectively late breaking papers co-chair and immigration chair.
