Germany to close nuclear plants.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has performed a complete U-turn in energy politics followed the Fukushima disaster. On Monday 30th May, the German government announced that Germany will close its 17 nuclear power plants by 2022. The German government committed Europe's largest economy to doubling the amount of electricity from renewable sources to 35 percent this decade. CBS professor Lucia Reisch (IKL / cbsCSR) has been one of the 17 members (and one of 2 women) of an "Ethics Committee" installed by the Chancellor to advise her in this process.
On Monday, after 6 weeks of intense meetings, the Committee came up with an evaluation of the ethical (social, economic and environmental) consequences of this move as well as with practical recommendations on how to politically steer and institutionalize such a process.
