Prof. Mette Morsing joined panel debate on CSR at Dansk Erhverv’s Annual Assembly
More than 1000 participants from business, government and academia participated when the Danish Chamber of Commerce, Dansk Erhverv, hosted their second annual assembly under the title “Doing Well by Doing Good” on 15 May. Prominent speakers included Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen and Minister of Trade and Commerce Bendt Bendtsen.
Director of CBS Center for Corporate Social Responsibility, Professor Mette Morsing, participated in panel debate on CSR. Minister of Trade and Commerce Bendt Bendtsen started the debate with an introduction on corporate responsibility and the Danish Government’s new action plan for CSR, which was published on 14 May (read more here).
In the debate, Mette Morsing pointed out that it has been documented that CSR has a positive effect on the company bottom line. But also that there are no fast and easy solutions:
“You cannot simply copy CSR engagement from one company to another. The ways in which companies deal with CSR will vary. Also, consumers are not so much the driving force behind CSR; business-to-business and politicians are on the other hand.”
The Danish Chamber of Commerce is the network for Trade, IT, Industry and Service in Denmark. The Chamber of Commerce is an independent, private business association, financed by its 20.000 member companies.
