All you need to know about graduate admission

Applying for a graduate programme requires a lot of work. First, you need to choose which programmes you want to apply for. Then you have to make sure you fulfil the language and entry requirements. And finally, you have to make sure that you apply correctly and in time.

To help you get started and get through your application proces, we have gathered some information for you on how to choose and apply for a graduate programme.

Choose the graduate programme that is right for you

The trick is to find the programme that is right for you. If you are unsure about which programme you want to apply for, you can read our 5 tips on choosing the right graduate programme on cbs.dk

Your natural progression and legal claim

All bachelor programmes at CBS have a natural progression, i. e. a graduate programme which is an academic continuation of your bachelor programme.

When you have a bachelor degree from CBS, you also have a right to admission to your natural progression within three years. This is what we mean by having a legal claim of admission to a graduate programme.

Find your natural progression and read more about legal claim to admission here

Are you applying for another graduate programme?

If you apply for another graduate programme than your natural progression, you are not guaranteed a study place on a graduate programme. We recommend that you make a plan B (and C) in case you are not accepted.

You can consider:

  • applying for more than one programme and possibly at other universities
  • applying for your natural progression as a lower priority. In this way you are guaranteed a place on one of your priorities. Clearly, you should only do this if you are interested in studying your natural progression.
  • what to do if you are not accepted at all - perhaps find a job, go abroad, etc.

Please note: If you are offered a place on a programme or concentration, you cannot get a place on another programme or concentration in exchange for the one you are offered.

Do you meet the requirements?

You can find the advance assessments of a large number of bachelor programmes on cbs.dk. Check if your bachelor degree meets the entry requirements for a specific graduate programme and see what you need in order to submit a full application.

You can find the advance assessments by clicking on the link below and then:

  • Click on the relevant graduate programme
  • Scroll down to Advance Assessments
  • Click on CBS Bachelor Degrees
  • Find your bachelor programme in the list
  • In the column “Fulfilment of academic entry requirements”, you can find information about what you need in order to submit a full application
  • In the column “Language requirement to be fulfilled”, you can check if you fulfil the language requirement

Read about entry requirements and find advance assessments

Do you not fulfil the requirements?
If you do not meet the requirements, you can read more about how to qualify here on cbs.dk

Please note: even if you meet the requirements, you are not guaranteed a study place.

Do you need to write a personal statement?

A number of the study programmes require a personal statement as a part of the selection criteria. The personal statement is an important element of your application. It is your opportunity to draw our attention to your academic accomplishments and professional experiences and to stand out from the other applicants.

If you apply for one of the programmes below, you must write a personal statement. If the programme is not on the list, you do not need to write a personal statement. If you choose to submit one anyway, it will not be read and will not be a part of the selection criteria.

Programmes with a personal statement:

  • MSc in Business Administration and Data Science
  • MSc in Business Administration and Information Systems*
  • MSc in Business, Language and Culture – Business and Development Studies*
  • MSc in Business, Language and Culture – Diversity and Change Management*
  • MSc in Business Administration and Innovation in Health Care
  • MSc in Economics and Finance - Advanced Economics and Finance
  • MSc in Business Administration and Digital Business*
  • MSc in Social Sciences in Public Management and Social Development
  • MSc in International Business and Politics*
  • MSc in Social Sciences - Organisational Innovation and Entrepreneurship
  • MSc in Social Sciences - Strategic Design and Entrepreurship
  • MSc in Business Administration and Bioentrepreneurship
  • Cand.merc.aud. (revisorkandidat)
  • Cand.merc.(kom.) - erhvervsøkonomi og kommunikation*
  • MSc in Social Science i Human Resource Management

* If you have legal claim to admission to MSc in International Business and Politics, MSc in Business, Language and Culture (both concentrations), MSc in Business Administration and Information Systems, MSc in Business Administration and Digital Business or cand.merc.(kom.), you do not need to write a personal statement. Just upload a blank document in the Application Portal.

How to apply?

You must apply online via the Application Portal for admission to CBS’ graduate programmes. You must submit your application no later than 1 March 2025 at 23:59 CET.

We recommend that you send your application well in advance as you may experience some queueing.

Read more about the application process and find the link to the Application Portal here on cbs.dk > How to apply

Prepare your documentation

Check out the documentation requirements well in advance, so you have your documentation ready by the application deadline.

What you need to upload depends on what you are applying for. Read more below.

Prioritise your applications

When applying to CBS, you have the option of applying for up to three graduate programmes. If you apply for more than one programme, you need to prioritise your applications. You must prioritise your applications according to which programme you would most like to get accepted into. You must place the programme you want the most as number one in the application portal.

Watch a video guide on how to prioritise your applications on cbs.dk > How to apply > Videoguides about applying in the application portal

How do we process your application?

We process your applications in the order you have specified in the application portal. For example, if you have applied for three programmes, we start by processing your first priority. If we cannot offer you a study place in that programme, we will process the application for your second priority. If we can offer you a place in your second priority, we will not process the application for your third priority.

Are you applying for your legal claim programme?

If you apply to more than one graduate programme, and one of them is your legal claim programme, we will still process your applications in priority order.

For example, if you have applied to three programmes and have given your legal claim third priority, we will first process the application for your first priority. If you are not admitted to that programme, we will process the application for your second priority. If we cannot offer you a study place in your second priority either, we will consider your third priority.

Since your third priority is your legal claim programme, you are guaranteed a study place when you have submitted your application correctly and prior to the application deadline. Therefore, we offer you a place at your legal claim programme.

When is the application deadline?

You must submit your application no lather than 1 March 2025 at 23:59 CET.

You must fulfil the language requirements by 1 March!

All graduate programmes at CBS have language requirements. You need to include documentation that you fulfil the language requirements when you send your application for a graduate programme. If you apply for your natural progression with a legal claim, you already fulfil the language requirement through your bachelor degree.

If you are not applying for your natural progression, you can read more about language requirements in the article Do you know the language requirements for your graduate programme?

Assessment of your application

If the number of qualified applicants exceeds the number of places, we select the applicants on the basis of an overall assessment. The applicants’ bachelor degree will be included in the overall assessment where we add special emphasis to courses and grades that are relevant to the graduate programme you are applying for.

Read more about what is considered important on the individual programme by clicking on the programme and choosing "Selection Criteria".

Find the programme and read about the selection criteria
