The leading research environment for business and IT changes name
Big Data, shared economy and the cashless society are all examples of research fields that some CBS researchers currently work with. Previously, the department focused more on developing IT and improve the efficiency of organisational processes by means of IT. That change has given rise to rename the department from the Department of IT Management to the Department of Digitalisation.
Peter Møllgaard, Dean of Research, welcomes the new name.
"The Department of Digitalisation conducts research in and teaches the digital transformation of the business community and the economy. The new name accentuates CBS' commitment to find technological and business solutions to ensure that digitalisation will benefit society. It is crucial in light of the accelerating changes we witness at the moment," he says.
International acknowledgement for IT research quality
Through the past years, CBS' research has been published in the eight most trendsetting academic journals in the cross field between IT and business. The number of publications in the so-called Basket-of-Eight journals have surpassed many other universities. In the latest ranking, the "Top Rankings of Schools in Bo8 journals", which covers the past three years, CBS is number one in Europe and number 13 in the world.
With this placement, CBS tops competing research environments in Europe from the London School of Economics and the University of Warwick, who hold second and third place, respectively.
Jan Damsgaard, Professor and Head of the Department of Digitalisation, points out that the prominent place in terms of research is a result of a year-long targeted effort.
”These great results have been achieved through collaboration in strong research teams with the dedicated and ambitious researchers of the department and a targeted effort in recruiting the best international researchers," he says.
IT programme is number one in Western Europe
IT research at CBS is not the only thing that is doing well. So does CBS' IT master programme. The Eduniversal Masters Ranking has given CBS’ ”MSc in Business Administration and Information Systems” (cand.merc.it) a top placement in Western Europe.
Launched more than three decades ago, the programme builds on 33 years of experience. This has paid off. The acknowledged IT programme leads to good salaries for CBS' graduates.
The think tank CEPOS has carried out a survey for Berlingske Business, which shows that an MSc in Business Administration and Information Systems makes DKK 812,703 a year on average. In comparison, an MSc in computer science makes DKK 758,576 a year.
