What does “educational use” entail?
Educational use covers situations when a faculty member uses images, vectors or videos for lectures, presentations, course materials etc. and when a student uses images, vectors or videos in his /her course work and in assignments.
Once a project, paper, or presentation is made public, is sold or is distributed to an audience outside of CBS, it is no longer considered educational use and a regular, commercial license must be acquired.
Stock vs. editorial use
You search stock images by default. Colourbox stock images, vectors, and videos may be cropped and edited. However, if you come across images marked with "editorial use" they may only be used in news media and no cropping or editing is allowed.
Other image databases
Images can be found on a lot of different sites on the internet. Take a look at our LibGuide on copyright which contains a list of image sites and tips on dos and don'ts.
Remember to credit
It is good practice to cite the sources you use.
