The integration of green and digital technologies proceeds slowly. A new publication by Björn Jindra and his co-author Matheus E. Leusin shows evidence that digital technologies for climate change mitigation and adaptation have started to emerge but still account only for a very small fraction of all patented inventions in the European Union (EU). The EU lacks relevant specialization advantages in some key ICT-related technologies, as well as in the top four climate change mitigation and adaption technologies. The paper outlines possible pathways for smart specialisation in digital sustainability technologies, including in renewable energies, transportation, and carbon capture storage. LINK
