Dariya

Meet Dariya, a student from BSc in International Shipping and Trade

Why did I choose my programme?
I have a natural interest in the shipping industry and find it extremely fascinating. I wanted to combine this interest with industry experience through internships and various engaging courses that help students better understand how shipping and international trade work. This is one of the primary reasons why I decided to enrol in the BSc Shipping and Trade programme.

What do I like the best?
The courses focus on maritime studies and the industry, providing valuable knowledge for those interested in entering the field in the future and gaining a better understanding of it.

What do I think is difficult?
Some of the more math- and theory-intensive courses may require additional time to prepare for and understand. Getting used to and adapting to what it is like studying at a university can be challenging in the beginning but with some preparation and time set aside you can manage it.

What would I have liked to have known before starting my programme?
How to better study and prepare for the exams and learn more about the heavier topics and how to best prepare for them. Also knowing a bit more about the courses beforehand to better prepare myself for what we have to go through. Regarding the programme and the exchanges, I would have liked to know what courses were available at the other universities.

What do I want to do after finishing my programme?
Hopefully, I will continue working within the shipping industry and maybe also get the opportunity to work abroad. Hopefully within maritime law or the bulk sector, which I am currently working in.

If I could give myself a piece of advice, before starting it would be…
Put more time into the subjects you find difficult but also make time for social activities. and get to know the other students in your programme to better connect and make friendships for the upcoming exchange.
