PhD defence: Myriam Noémy Marending
This thesis discusses three distinct economic development challenges in low and middle income countries, that stand independently. Chapter 1 looks at conflict dynamics of non-state armed groups in the context of peace agreement negotiations in Africa. Chapter 2 quantifies the welfare effect of an environmental shock, namely desert locusts, for rural households in Ethiopia. Chapter 3 analyses the role of bank credit on the size and dynamics of the informal economy in India.
