Two new business programmes in project management and communication
Next year, CBS will enrol students in two new programmes in which communication and management disciplines are strengthened by business cases and number crunching.
Traditionally seen, future bachelors in project management and masters in international business communication in multi-cultural organisations will not become specialists within one discipline. Instead of only being a good project manager or communicator, they will also develop a flair for accounting and company structures at an international level. And some will develop skills within law and technology.
Project manager with a proper budgetary framework
Students with a penchant for numbers, language and projects can apply for the BSc in business administration and project management. Lise Justesen, Associate Professor at the Department of Organization, is involved in the development of the programme. She says that the programme is essentially different from continuing education within project management:
- This programme is built on research-based teaching activities. The project management tools are not only introduced, the students also have to learn to ask critical questions and understand projects in their context. Theory will also be put into practice and the students will have to work with project management in relation to the courses in business economics. This means that they will have core courses in organisation and accounting, finance, marketing and statistics. The courses must be used in relation to project management, for instance if a new product is to be developed and marketed, a political campaign is to be launched or a festival is to be arranged. The programme will thus teach the students how to make a budget, time management and the meaning and use of networks, says Lise Justesen.
The future job description depends on which specialisation the student chooses for his/her master programme. At CBS, it can be within the creative industries, finance or strategy and management.
Internal communication in multinationals
Large companies need expertise in organisational knowledge sharing as well as an understanding of how communication works in different contexts, cultures and countries. In collaboration with the Department of IT Management and the Department of Intercultural Communication and Management, the Department of International Business Communication (IBC) offers a new programme in internal communication.
A master in Multicultural Communication in Organizations (MCO), as the programme is called, will be able to navigate in the waters of multinationals, explains Margrethe Mondahl, associate Professor at IBC and director of the programme:
- The programme is taught in English, so there is an international potential. The students work with culture, identity and organisation, strategic communication, knowledge sharing and expert communication. They will become the best communicators of difficult technical and legal subjects, organisation values and responsibilities to a global marketplace, because it is the needs of the multinationals that are the very core of the programme. The MCO graduates will obtain an understanding of the company framework and its cultural and communicative challenges, says Margrethe Mondahl.
The Department of International Business Communication (IBC) was established on 1 May 2012. One of the aims of IBC is to make language and intercultural programmes business-oriented. Margrethe Mondahl emphasises that this programme cannot be confused with the ‘old’ MA in International Business Communication. The programme is designed as a concentration of CBS' own programme, BA in English and Organisational Communication. The programme also targets international students.
