Cross-National Seminar in Limassol
In late October 2018, the Consumers in Markets (CIM) Cluster at MSC, CBS, co-hosted a Cross-National Seminar in Limassol, Cyprus, organized in collaboration with the Semiotics and Visual Communication Research Lab (SVC Lab) at Cyprus University of Technology and the AUTH SemioLab at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
The seminar was titled Nations, Products, and Sensory Experiences: How is it all Perceived by Customers and Tourists? It aimed at establishing and consolidating new proactive synergies between ongoing and planned research in the respective environments falling within the borderzone of multimodal consumer communication research, nation branding, tourism management, and food and drink innovation. While highly complementary, these fields are far from always approached in integration, rendering a seminar like the present a needed forum for cross-fertilization of theories, methods, and empirical findings.
The seminar included the following papers (click to see power point presentations):
Aspasia Papadima & Evangelos Kourdis, Semiotic Modes in Commercial Communication. A Comparative Analysis of Culinary Shop Signs in Greece and Cyprus
Evripides Zantides, The re-design of the logo for Cyprus University of Technology. Challenges, concepts and solution for a new brand identity
George Damaskinidis & Loukia Kostopoulou, Intersemiotic translation of subliminal messages in commercial logos
Elli Vazou & George Damaskinidis, Towards a bottom-up methodology for investigating the branding of Greece on the Internet
