MSC researchers participate in new Innovation Fund project
Professor MSO Mikkel Flyverbom, Associate Professor Nanna Bonde Thylstrup, and Postdoc Kasper Lindskow are participants in a major new project, Platform Intelligence in News (PIN). The project focuses on responsible artificial intelligence in news media. Together with JP/Politikens Hus, Copenhagen University and DTU, they have received a grant of nearly DKK 11 million from Innovation Fund Denmark to create ‘more relevant, engaging and informing news media by increasing the intelligence of the digital platforms of journalism’.
Machine learning will be a central part of the project in connection with the development of recommender systems (which personalise news media) and natural language processing (which can analyse and produce text in natural language). DTU Compute will be in charge of the former aspect, and DIKU (Data science at KU) the latter.
Furthermore, the project will be studying the effect of the new technologies in live-tests with the aim of developing ethically responsible strategies for implementation. Mikkel Flyverbom, Nanna Thylstrup and Kasper Lindskow will be responsible for this part of the project together with Stine Lomborg and Rasmus Helles from KU. The vision is to exploit the potential of the technologies to create more relevant media without reproducing the negative effects of commercial platforms.
Kasper Lindskow, Postdoc at MSC and Head of Research and Innovation at Ekstra Bladet in JP/Politikens Hus, is also project leader of the PIN project. |
